The Road

by Cormac McCarthy

5/5
Vintage International 287 pages September 26, 2006

A father and his young son walk alone through a burned and blasted post-apocalyptic landscape, pushing a shopping cart of scavenged supplies toward the coast. Sparse and devastating, this Pulitzer Prize winner explores love, survival, and what it means to carry the fire of hope.

Jim's Review

🐛
McCarthy stripped language down to its bones and somehow made it more powerful than ever. Jim read this in one sitting — couldn't stop, even though every page felt like burrowing through ash. No quotation marks, barely any punctuation, and yet it's one of the most emotional books this worm has ever devoured. Keep tissues nearby. And maybe a flashlight.
