Jim's Review
🐛
Jim ugly-cried at the end of this book. Not ashamed to admit it. Full-on wormy tears, all over the pages. Weir outdid himself — this is even better than The Martian, and that's saying something. Ryland Grace wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory and the fate of humanity on his shoulders. What could go wrong? The science is REAL and absolutely fascinating — Jim learned more about astrophage, stellar physics, and biochemistry from this novel than from actual textbooks. But what makes this book special isn't the science — it's the HEART. The friendship at the core of this story is one of the most beautiful Jim has ever encountered in any genre. Without spoiling anything, let's just say that communication, trust, and sacrifice across impossible differences is the real theme. Jim has never rooted so hard for two characters. Weir's humor is pitch-perfect too — Grace's internal monologue is hilarious even when things are dire, and the problem-solving sequences are pure dopamine for anyone who loves watching smart people figure things out. Jim recommends the audiobook version too — Ray Porter's narration is legendary. Fist my bump. FIVE WORMS. Jim's book of the decade, no contest.
