A failed bank robber locks himself in a Swedish apartment with eight strangers during an open house viewing. As the police surround the building, the hostages and their bumbling captor begin to connect in the most unexpected ways. A poignant comedy about the enduring human capacity for compassion.

Jim's Review

🐛
Fredrik Backman does it again — making Jim laugh and cry on the same page, sometimes in the same sentence. This book is a warm hug disguised as a hostage situation. Every character is beautifully flawed and deeply human, and Jim burrowed through each revelation with growing affection for all of them. It's the kind of story that reminds this little worm that people are messy and wonderful and worth rooting for.
